Creating a simpler, more friendly voice and messaging experience for SMBs

TalkNText was Cloudli’s voice and messaging product for small and micro businesses that needed straightforward communication without the complexity typically associated with traditional business phone systems. The project involved defining a clearer product and visual direction for the service, spanning its proposition, brand, marketing experience and native iOS and Android applications.

The problem

Big-business phone systems, small-business headaches

For smaller businesses, setting up and managing business communications can feel unnecessarily complicated. Traditional voice products are often built around the needs of larger organisations, introducing technical terminology, configuration and functionality that can create friction for smaller teams.

Powerful features geared to smaller businesses

Small teams deserve better

TalkNText presented an opportunity to approach the problem differently: rather than simply adding another communications product to an already crowded market, it needed a simpler, more approachable experience built around the needs of SMB and micro-SMB customers.

Not just a pretty face

The challenge therefore extended beyond the interface itself. The product needed a clear proposition and visual identity, a landing experience that communicated its value quickly, and a native mobile experience that made everyday voice and messaging tasks feel straightforward. These different touchpoints also needed to work together as one coherent product experience.

The outcome

One vision, every touchpoint

I led the product and visual direction, bringing strategy, proposition, brand, web and native mobile together as one joined-up experience.

Positioning before pixels

Working closely with Product and Marketing, I helped shape how TalkNText should be positioned and expressed before any screens were designed.

Encrypted calls with screening baked in

Consistent on every device

I then turned that direction into the iOS, Android and web apps, so customers got the same experience on any of them.

Building blocks for the bigger picture

I set up reusable components and patterns, and kept refining them, so they could bring more consistency to the rest of Cloudli's products.

Collaborate with your team with rich messaging

A head start for future work

Because of that shared foundation, new features could be designed and built more quickly.

Simple by design

The result was a voice and messaging experience that felt simpler and more approachable for SMB and micro-SMB customers.

A clearer visual language

The product came out with a distinct, consistent look and a reusable foundation to build on.
